The suspects were identified as Lebanese Nader Issam Assaf and his Syrian wife Mona Hassoun, employers of murdered overseas Filipino worker Joanna Daniela Dimafelis. About 260 repatriated OFWs from Kuwait arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 in Pasay City. OFWs were repatriated following the declaration of a deployment ban in Kuwait following a series of incidents of supposed abuses, one of which led to the death of a Filipino household service worker. According to reports, the couple and their two children left Kuwait in November 2016, while the body of Demafelis was discovered recently when the owner of the apartment obtained permission from the court to enter the apartment. Apparently, the Lebanese national was wanted by Kuwaiti authorities in connection with several legal cases and with a court ruling of 14 days in jail. Assaf was supposedly the sponsor of Dimafelis and that he was the one who reported her missing two days before he and his wife left Kuwait. The Interpol is now looking for the suspects. A manhunt has also been launched by the Kuwaiti police to arrest the couple. This was the assurance given by the Kuwaiti ministries of interior and foreign affairs to the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait during their meeting over the weekend.
